The Group's links with China go back to 1853 and following the establishment of our wholly owned subsidiary, Sun Alliance Insurance ( China) Limited, we have opened in October 2009 our first branch outside Shanghai.
The Group's links with China go back to 1853 In 1992, RSA returned to China and opened representative offices in Beijing (1992) , Dalian ( 1994) and Shanghai (1995).
In order to expand further across the country, insurers must look to establish a locally incorporated subsidiary, and so RSA applied to the Chinese Insurance Regulatory Commission ( CIRC) for permission to convert Shanghai branch into a wholly owned subsidiary.
This permission was granted by the CIRC in 2007 and the new subsidiary, Sun Alliance Insurance ( China) Limited was formally authorized & launched on March 17 th 2008.

Sun Alliance Insurance ( China) Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal & Sun Alliance UK plc, capitalized at RMB 500m, with its Head Office in Shanghai. The Executive Team is lead by Greg Otterson, as CEO for China for R&SA. Details of the executive team and company structure are provided in this section.
All previous business, as well as the risks and liabilities were transferred to the new subsidiary from the original RSA ¨C Shanghai Branch. The launch of the new subsidiary, allows RSA to create a nationwide presence in China, and plans are in place to establish branch offices in key cities. Approval was given in January 2009 to establish a branch in Beijing and this was launched in October 2009
